What You Should Know About the New Generation of SEO

Search engine optimization is simply the process of developing your website in a way that it can be easily and effectively indexed by the different search engines.

Search Engine Optimization has changed quite a bit over the years, as the search engines have been able to come up with newer and better algorithms for indexing website pages.

With these newly added algorithms the search engines are able to focus on particulars within any given website to determine its importance and its basic content value.

So the question is What do search engines look for today?

Back Links
Search Engines like Google place a fairly heavy importance on websites that link back to your website. This basically is able to give the search engine an idea as to how important others find your website.

The more back links you have the more important you look in the eyes of the search engine robots.

Keywords/phrases
Search engines rely very heavily on the keywords within your content, titles etc. Almost all search engines today have written algorithms that make the keywords meta tag useless.

That's right almost all search engines don't even look at the keywords meta tags anymore. Unfortunately this is one of the biggest things that people still spend so much time on.

Content Uniqueness
The internet is home to more than a billion websites, and because of this there is a tremendous amount of content that has been duplicated and copied all over the place.

Search engines today have decided to start cleaning the web up, and therefore have created algorithms to help catch duplicate content and keep it from being stored in their databases.

The absolute best way to get on the good side of the search engines is to provide them with quality unique content.

Clean up your Code
Search engines use robots and spiders to crawl through the web looking for more content that they can index in their databases.

The problem that these robots and spiders often encounter is poorly coded websites. Poorly coded websites can be defined as:

* Unnecessary code existing on the page
* Broken links, or scripts
* Pages cluttered with useless content
* Missing tags

When the robots and spiders crawl a website like this they try to sift through it but often just end up giving up and moving on the next website. This can really hurt your chances of getting your website indexed.

The longer that search engines are up and running the more sophisticated the algorithms will get, and the better our web development and content practices will have to be.
