Why you should avoid free web hosting
Okay so you’ve just finished building your website that you have spent countless hours on, and now you are ready to show it to the world. So how in the world do you do this? In order to make your website accessible to others on the internet you will have to get your website put on a web server. In order to do this you will have to find a web hosting company, sign up for an account, and get the appropriate server login information. When choosing a web hosting company you basically have the choice of going with paid or free web hosting. A lot of people who are just starting out who do not want to spend a lot of money tend to go with the free service at first, and then eventually move on to a paid service. When choosing the type of web hosting for your website you really have to take into consideration the goal of your website first. If your website is just a personal website that you just want to use as a hobby then choosing a free web host may be okay. If you plan on making any kind of money with your website, whether it is through affiliate marketing, Adsense, selling ad space or whatever, I would strongly recommend going with a paid web hosting company for a few key reasons. The biggest problem with free web hosting if you are trying to make money with your website is that the web host displays ads and banners on your website in order to pay for their free service their offering. This really ruins the professional atmosphere of your website. With free web hosting you will not have your own domain name. So instead of your website being yourwebsitename.com, it would be something like yourwebsitename.hostname.com. Now this may not seem like a big deal however; search engines will consider this part of the web hosts website and building up your website rank will be almost impossible to do. Not to mention that again the professionalism is taken from your website. Bandwidth is a very important aspect of any web hosting service. Bandwidth is basically the measure of how much data is being sent from the server over the internet to the different users’ browsers. This is usually measured in Megabytes or Gigabytes. The problem with free web hosting is that your bandwidth is very small and if you exceed your monthly bandwidth they will deactivate your website. Finally with paid web hosting, you usually pay for a year of service, thus entering into a contract with the company. The problem with free hosting is that there are no contracts, and this means that the web host could cancel your web account at any time for any reason without notice. Just imagine that you just finish setting everything up, you start getting traffic to your website, and then one day its all gone. Free web hosting does have its place but if you are planning on making a website that will make money, or if you are planning on making a website that will grow in the future you are far better off to go with a paid web hosting company. Today you can get very good quality web hosting for a very cheap and affordable price. The best one I would recommend is Host Gator. |

I agree Host Gator is excellent for individuals who have proven earnings they expect to be on-going; however, for individuals who have not generated income on line and believe they have potential to earn, Microsoft Office Live Small Business is a great place to start and the site is 100% created by the owner with accompaning email and free hosting for three years. Sucessful site can be transferred to Host Gator at any time prior to free hosting expiration ;)
i think this is a very mis-leading article. There are many excellent free hosting deals available that provide your own domain (not sub-domains), email, good bandwith and no advertising. As already mentioned microsoft office live small business is great and one i recommend to anyone starting out in websites. I would go so far as to personally advise anyone embarking on a website aimed at personal financial gain to start out with a free host until your idea starts to generate income.
I own my own domains, but have been using a free hosting service (www.freeola.com) for about 10 years now and it's fair to say I've never ecountered any hosting issues yet!
